This can be a tricky one for people. Foundation can look very different from when you are in a shop under their bright lighting to outdoors in natural light. I would always advise that you try and get a sample to test out first before purchasing as foundation doesn’t come cheap and you don’t want to be left with a full bottle of product that doesn’t match your skintone!
Ask for a sample! I can’t stress this enough- I’ve had so many clients over the years who spent lots of money on foundations that were just not right for them. If a counter has no samples, you can buy little travel pots in the chemist that they can pop a bit of a tester in for you. Most counters are more than happy to do this!
Test the shade on your jawline and not the back of your hand. If it disappears you’ve met your match!
Know your tone! An easy way to figure this one out is to look at the veins on the back of your wrists. If they are blue, you are a cool tone and will a foundation with a pinky undertone. If the veins look green, you are warm so you want to stick to golden or yellow based foundations. If you have an equal amount of blue and green veins then you are neutral so you can wear either!
Hope this helps,
